The story of car manufacture in Nottinghamshire

Humber , Brough Superior and Raleigh vehicles are all covered in the book, along with some lesser known – but equally fascinating – makes, such as Leader, Bentinck, Campion, Stag and Buck.

Specialist sports cars are still built in the county today by Great British Sports Cars Ltd, and these are covered together with other recent Nottinghamshire sports marques such as Spartan,  Middlebridge Scimitar, and Evante.

Also featured are the charming reproduction vehicles made in the 1980s by Fleur de Lys in Newark-on-Trent, and there is even a chapter on the early steam cars (or ‘Vapomobiles’) made in the early 1900s by the Motor Construction Co. of Nottingham.

From forecars to sports cars, the motor manufacturers of Nottinghamshire have done it all.

Nottinghamshire places where vehicle manufacture took place, and which are included in the book: Nottingham, Beeston, Mansfield, Newark, Mapperley Plains, Boughton
