QUESTION: What was this building originally used for, and What is its connection with G.H. Porter’s Provisions shop across the square?

Clue: Look for a plaque high up on the front of the building.  Compare this with the wording on the plaque at G.H. Porter's.

 

 QUESTION: The plaque also mentions W.E. Gladstone.  Who was he, and what top job did he have in later life?

Clue: Use an encyclopaedia to find out about Gladstone.  There is now also a William Gladstone School in Newark
