Mansfield to Sutton by air for just one penny
This cartoon was spotted in a 1910 edition of The Mansfield and North Notts Advertiser newspaper.
The caption beneath the picture reads "It is said to be just as easy to-day to buy an aeroplane as a motor car, and it is predicted that the one will soon be as familiar a sight as the other. Captain Clayton is shortly bringing his Bleriot monoplane to Mansfield and in the not far distant future we may expect to witness scenes similar to that depicted above by our artist"
In the cartoon, as the new aeroplane service (costing just a penny) from Mansfield to Sutton-in-Ashfield zooms ahead, you can see 'for sale' notices attached to both a steam train and tramcars on the ground.
