ADLARD, Arthur [of Hucknall & Annesley]

The death of Pte Arthur Adlard of The Rows, Hucknall, was reported in the Hucknall Dispatch of 3rd December 1914.

"The deceased was 29 years of age and working at annesley colliery; he had lived there in the Rows.  He was the first to leave the village on generla mobilization, leaving behind a wife and two children.  Both at hucknall and annesley he was well known and respected as are all memebers of the family.

"The news of his death was furnished by a fellow soldier named Wilson of Retford who has been invalided home and has notified the wife that he was killed on November 5th.  Wilson states that he buried Adlard himself and made a cross to mark the spot.  They had been through 10 engagements together in the Lincoln Regiment"
