Art Clubs paint tribute to First World War fallen
Muskham Art Group and Newark Art Club join forces to honour those who gave their lives
By John Geeson
This striking tribute to the fallen of the Great War was created by members of the Newark Art Club and Muskham Art Group in June 2014.
John Geeson, who is Exhibition Organiser of Newark Art Club and also a member of Muskham Art Group, writes:-
"I was asked by North Muskham Parish Council, of which I am a Councillor, if the Art Club would take part in the Riverside Festival at North Muskham that was held on Saturday 28th June. I decided to produce a group painting of The Great War in which members of Newark Art Club and Muskham Art Group would take part in St. Wilfred’s Church, North Muskham.
Each member was given a 4 inch square piece of the picture which they then had to paint onto a 12 inch square in a medium of their choice which included watercolour, acrylic and pastels. The finished paintings were then fixed together on a board to display the complete painting. A lot of interest was shown by the public who visited the Festival whilst we were painting.
The finished painting will be on display at St. Wilfred’s Church, North Muskham, on Sunday 3rd August 2014.
