Hockerton School and Post box

By Pauline Marples

This old building is at Hockerton not far from the Spread Eagle Public House. While it has the appearance of a chapel, the plaque above the door suggests it was a school opened in 1843.  Does anyone have further information on this building? Could it have had connections to Hockerton Parish Church which is only a short distance away, across the road and down a lane?

Although the building is now in a dilapidated state the Victorian Wall Post Box, attached to the building is still in use [August 2015]. The box was made by Smith & Hawkes of Birmingham .
