On the back of this post card, someone has written 'Hucknall  Carnival Coronation Day July 1935. Miss M Morley Carnival Queen, the Misses Ida Hallam, Louse Peel attendants.

What a wonderful photograph - the expressions are, indeed, fascinating! The 'policeman' (not the real thing!) in the top and middle photographs is in fact my grandfather, (Stephen) Albert Humphreys, who was always much to the fore on these occasions, in some comic guise or other.

... incidentally, these carnivals were still taking place in the mid-1950s. I remember standing as a child in the market place to see the processions pass along Baker Street.
