Mystery photo from Newark

Can you help?

By David Ibitson

We found a selection of negatives in an old handbag, belonging to my 97 year old mother.

On having the photos developed, the results are some of my Mum and Dad on their wedding day on 2nd September 1940. If all the negatives are the same time, would like to know if anyone has any information on what the photos are and who is in them, we think they are taken in Newark-on-Trent.

Top photo looks like Home Guard uniforms.  Are they likely to be Newark Home Guard, and if so, are there records of who served?  Bottom photo - uniform suggests fireman; if Newark could be town fire brigade, or one of the factory forces eg at Ransome & Marles (Can't see any badges to identify either way).  I know there is a booklet on WW11 service at R&M, so it may be worth looking for any likely names in there.  Hoe this helps

Following from the above comment, going to the Newark library having found the booklet on WW2 services at R&M. I found very interesting but no likely names.

As to the home guard uniforms, On visiting the Rufford Living History day and meeting groups that could say from the photo, it is the 1939 pattern uniform with a different webbing pouches.
