I am sat on the front row, right hand side.  Other people in the photo are Philip Goy, Jane Scofield, Mervyn Squires, the late Susan Bugg, Maurice ?

Many thanks for the identification, Angela.  You mention other people in the photo.  Are you able to locate them for use eg back row 3rd from left etc - so we can put names to faces.  Any help would be much appreciated.

As far as I can remember: 

Philip Goy is sat next to me on the front row, 3rd from right.

Irene Schofield, not Jane, is on the front row,  2nd from left.

Mervyn Squires, back row, 3rd from left.

Susan Bugg, middle row,  2nd from left.

Maurice Thurman, middle row, 4th from right.

I was in class 4c and was known for my running in sports, fastest in the school, the fourth person from the right looks like the woodwork teacher, not sure if it were mr wood or mr lee. can never understand why they had to pull down such a brilliant school.

I went to Sconce Hills School 1955 to 1959 ... I was in the school choir .. Miss Tipular? was the music teacher at that time ...I remember ..Ann Short, Elsie & Edna Jones, Tony Severs among other's ... I know we had quite a few Pictures taken  but my parents didn't buy them ... I loved going to this school and was very sorry to find it had been pulled down. 

My father Len Martin was Deputy Head for a short time in 1963-64 before passing away unexpectedly.

I attended the School between 1952 - 1956 and have a class photograph taken circa 1955 The photo on this page was taken around the time I left school. I remember Mr Lee the woodwork teacher (we nicknamed him Tash Lee). I Think it is Mr Bond, the headmaster who is sitting next to him. 

Went to That school between 1958 and 1963. Remember Mr Lee and Mr Wood who was scary, but no one has mentioned the most inspirational teacher at that school at the time Mrs Williams who was our final Year form teacher . Have very fond memories of Sconce Hills School and the  school meals . 

I taught PE at Sconnies 1966-71 and remember the head Mr Webster,deputies Mrs Wales and Mr Stephens,Nick Maltby[maths],Ken Hunter[science],Howard Preece[humanities],Jim Malloch [metalwork].It was my first teaching job and found it difficult at first but soon settled in and loved my time there.

Yes i remember mr lee he taught me woodwork im my last year,didn't want to do cooking with mrs horsefall or something like that mrs dexter taught us to sew , im still sewing mr bond was a kind headmaster. i agree the lunches were great,swimming sucked freezing cold Attended 59-62  I'm  now living in Australia and loving it

I attended Sconce Hills School 1955 to 1959 and have very fond memories, I was in the school choir and I think the music teacher was Miss Tipular?? forgive me if that's wrong. I live in Australia and have made many visits back to England I was very sad to hear our old school had been demolished. I would appreciate it if anyone has any photographs of the school or of the choir. 

I am directly behind Mr Bond. I remember Chippy Lee being a nice guy.

After moving around Uk for many years settled back in Dry Doddington(near Newark) for the last 20 years.

I went to Sconnies 1966-69. I loved my time at this great school. My best mete was Pauline Pegg. I remember Mr Webster, Mrs Wales, Mr Stevens (English) , Mr Titley, Mr Jones and so many more. I was so sad when I heard it had been pulled down. Anyone remember me?

I taught at Sconce Hills from 1963 until 1976. Mainly maths but also occasionally Science & PE.. Good to see the photo as I remember many of those pictured. Pupils generally a lively but happy bunch and I enjoyed my time there. Recently met up with Alan Forsey & wife Ann Clarkson who both taught there. PE & Domestic Science. Remember?   Later I taught at Magdalene & then Magnus. So whole 40 years in Newark. 

Hi I went to Sconce Hills from 1955 to 1959. The only ones I recognise on the photo are Mr Bond and Mr (Tashy) Lee. All the staff from my time except for these two seem to be missing. Some teachers from my time were - Mr Robb (sports) Mr Denner (science) Miss Sharpe (gardening) Mr Hilton (deputy Head) and Mr Wood (metalwork) My class photo is shown on "Sconcehills School"

I was at Sconce Hills School from 1964-1969; mixed feelings about it in some ways, but good memories of a number of staff Mrs Metcalf (Mr Titley, who taught English), Mrs Brooks (who died suddenly when I was in the first or second year), Mr Bond (Headteacher, who also died suddenly when I was in the first year - the new headteacher was Mr Webster), Miss Yeomans (Biology), Mr Maltby (Maths/Science...I was never good at Maths, but he inspired confidence and I remember him saying 'don't ask why you need to do this, just do it...' which was an enormous help.   I also remember Mrs Wales and Mr Speirs (Music)....and Mrs Piggott (French) - with much affection.   Somehow, they never gave up on us...

I went to Sconce Hills school 1970-74, can truly say it was the happiest time of my life.

The school, teachers, etc gave me confidence that helped me through. We had such good times, it was a fabulous place and taught me so much that I was able to have a good career,  I don't think that would have happened if I had gone straight to a High school. I made life long friends there. I fondly remember Mr Spears (music), Mr Maltby (maths), Mr Hunter (science) Mr Titley, then Beldon? (english), Mr Stevens( Religious studies). Oh and how we fancied Mr Pitt (PE)! (Sorry Mr Pitt) Mr Doy (art) miss Wales was lovely and Miss Piggot and Yeomans to name but a few.  Ah.. Happy days, such a pity they ruined it and then knocked it down
