Unflattering comment about Dunham-on-Trent
By RICHARD SHEPPARD
This postcard of Dunham-on-Trent shows a row of old thatched houses, evidently in poor shape and probably not long before their demolition. Posted in 1912 to a Miss Roberts in West Bridgford, the correspondent was not impressed by the village. He writes: Dear M, I arrived here after a walk of 4 miles in snow 3 inches deep. Did I enjoy it?. It's a miserable place. Only about 30 houses in the village. Write me a long letter to cheer me up. I need it. I am writing this on a stile after visiting some houses about half a mile apart. I may get home in about a fortnight for a day. Good-bye, Albert.
