Does anyone know exactly where this shop stood?
This photograph dates from the 1920s. It shows Mr L Kirk and Mr Fred Kirk (son) standing at door of shop with Mr Fox, a painter and decorator. As noted by John Burnett in the book "Plenty and Want", average annual consumption of meat in the years 1924-8 was 134 lbs per head. By 1934, meat and fish accounted for 32% of food expenditure. So maybe these butchers were doing quite well. Does anyone have any tales to tell about this shop?
