Blyth Hall
Built 1684-5 by Edward Mellish (died 1703)
Architect: possibly William Talman.
Demolished 1972.
H.M. Colvin suggests an attribution to Talman based on stylistic grounds.
Records of payments to the architect John Carr of York (dated 1773 and 1776) show that it was he who added a bay-windowed drawing room with Adamish detail between two of the towers. The stables and surviving bridge of 1770 were probably also by John Carr who was a great friend of Blyth Hall's owner at that time.
