Converted Public Toilets

By Alice Cave

This must be one of the most unusual shop premises in Beeston.  Some of you will probably remember when this building at the junction of Station Road and Queen's Road was used as a public convenience.

Its interior was gutted when it was finally sold or let, and the first business to move in was a type of Pound Shop.  It subsequently functioned as a gold buying outlet, with the fluctuating price of gold displayed prominently in the window.  Now it is a beauty parlour (Jan 2011).
