King John's Palace, Clipstone

Pevsner (p.99) notes this as the principal royal hunting lodge in Sherwood Forest, it being first documented as such in 1164. By 1525 the lodge was already decayed.

Today, the three remaining wall stand upto 10ft high, enclosing an area of 58 x 20ft.

Nearby, notes Pevsner, a large hollow probably denotes a fishpond
