Annesley Old Church
History of Annesley
By David Amos
The 13th century Annesley All Saints Church will be the centre of a three-year Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) Project. The Project, overseen by the Heritage and Tourism section of Ashfield District Council (ADC) runs from August 2011 to the end of July 2014.
Most of the work in the first -year of the Project will see restoration work done on the site and for most of this the period the site will be closed to the public. However, from August 2012 it is intended to raise the profile of the Old Church site by running various events and activities. A Friends of Annesley Old Church Group will be set up in the near future.
The Old Church stands alongside Annesley Hall, latterley the home of the Charworths, later to be the Chaworth-Musters Family. The site has historical links not only with the family but with the poet Lord Byron and the author DH Lawrence.
