Sherwood Foresters

Lieutenant-Colonel B.W. Vann, V.C., M.C. was killed in action at Ramicourt on 3rd October 1918 when in command of the 6th Sherwood Foresters. He was posthumously awarded the Victoria Cross for his heroic role in this action.

The Victoria Cross is the highest award for gallantry that can be awarded to British and Commonwealth forces
