A report on progress from 1896

In its edition of 22nd July 1896 (p5 c6) The Newark Advertiser reported progress regarding construction of the railway station at Ollerton

"THE NEW STATION WORKS – The contractors for the new railway have a good staff of workmen now employed on the station buildings and adjoining works. The booking-office and waiting rooms, etc. are nearly ready to receive the roof, and the goods sheds are in a still more forward state, the roofing timbers being fixed. A new house for the station-master to reside in is being built about midway down the station approach from the Rufford road, and is now above the first floor level. The boundary fences adjacent to the station are erected, and also on the sides of the station approach referred to whilst the entrance gates are fixed at the bottom. Judging from appearances, however, it will yet be some months before the line can be opened for passenger traffic".
