How to create a page

First you need to register with the site.   Please jump to How to join in if you want some more information about this.

Logging in

  1. Once registered, go to the home page, and put your user name and password into the Contribute box (on the left hand side of the screen)
  2. When you click on Log in, the Contribute box changes to one with your name at the top, and the query, “What would you like to do?” underneath.   Choose the “My pages” option.   This opens a new page.   Click on the Add a page button on the right hand side
  3. You will see as you go along that the site offers you useful hints on the right hand side of each screen

Add title

  1. Add a title
  2. Add a sub-title if you want
  3. By default, your name is entered as the author. Edit this if you want
  4. Click Next

Add words

  1. This is the section for your main body of text. You can prepare the words first in a simple programme like Notepad and copy them in if you like
  2. Type or paste into the main box
  3. The text can be formatted with bold, italic or underline commands from the toolbar above the box
  4. When you have finished, click Next

Add photos

  1. Your photo needs to be saved before you can add it (that is, you cannot copy and paste a photo into the site)
  2. Click the Browse button
  3. From the Choose File window, navigate to the place where the image is stored and double-click on it to select it
  4. The Choose File window will disappear
  5. Click Upload this image: the progress bar will show you how quickly the upload is working
  6. A small version of the photo will be placed under the heading Photos on this page

  8. Click Done
  9. If you want to add more photos, click on Add a new photo from the left hand side of the screen, and follow the instructions as before
  10. To continue, click Next

Add a map

  1. You can skip this step, but for images added to our shops project it is useful as it displays everyone’s shop pictures on a composite map. If you want to move onto the next step without including a map on your page, just click Next at the bottom of the add a map page
  2. Type in a postcode or a location and click Search
  3. The map will show your location pinpointed with a red balloon

  6. You can choose whether or not to have the map visible on your page
  7. Click Next

  2. You can choose which layout you would like by clicking on each of these rectangles in turn. The one that already shows in the preview is highlighted in red, and has the text and images side-by-side
  3. The left-hand icon should be highlighted in red. This is the layout that you are currently previewing. In this layout, the text and images are side-by-side
  4. The middle icon has a larger picture with your text on the top
  5. The third icon is the one to use for a picture gallery
  6. You can go back and alter any of the elements that make up your page by clicking on the tabs above the heading Preview your page. For example, if you need to change some words, just click on the tab Add words
  7. Click on Save your work

Save your contribution

  1. If you select Save and continue editing, you can still go back and make changes before submitting your work
  2. If you select Save Draft for later, you can log off and return later to pick up from where you left off
  3. Save and Submit is the final option. If you select this, your page will go into a queue to be await publishing by a site editor. Click here, and the site will return you to your My Pages screen

Log out

  1. The page you have just made can be seen waiting under the heading Submitted for publication
  2. Click on the Log out tab. A message will pop up asking you to confirm your log out. Click OK. This will return you to the home page of the site
