The Stocks at Rolleston

A letter written in 1931 by Edward Crowder (then aged 76 and living in Langley Mill, just over the border in Derbyshire), recalls boyhood visits to his Grandfather (also Edward) who lived in a cottage close to the village green in Rolleston.

Judging from other references in the letter, the writer is remembering a time, possibly as far back as the 1860s.  He writes:-

"I can remember the stocks were on it [the village green], and have played round about them when on a visit to Rolleston with my father, whose name was Richard Crowder"
